Custom Foot Orthotics
If you suffer from chronic back, shin splints, arch or heel pain, it could be a result of compromised foot mechanics. Improper foot mechanics, such as flat feet, may affect how you walk and place stress on your ankles, knees and hips, resulting in low back pain. Custom orthotics (shoe inserts) may be prescribed to correct your foot mechanics, and are covered by many private insurance plans.
In partnership with The Orthotic Group, Dr. Sarah is certified to perform a comprehensive foot examination to assess alignment and diagnose the foot problem, followed by the foam casting of the foot. The foam cast is analyzed by a computer technician from The Orthotic Group and a custom insert is constructed to address your particular concern.
What are prescription orthotics?
Prescription orthotics look like insoles, but are biomechanical medical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. Orthotics work on your feet much like glasses work on your eyes- they reduce stress and strain on your body by bringing your feet back into proper alignment. Orthotics fit into your shoes as comfortably as an insole- and they have the advantage of having been made from precise imprints of your feet.

Some insurance health plans offer coverage for custom-made foot orthotics. Here are the questions to ask your insurance company regarding the coverage of your individual plan:
1. Does my insurance policy cover custom orthotics?
2. What percentage of the cost will they cover?
3. Can my chiropractor prescribe and dispense my orthotics?
